There is an alternative to vasectomy reversal.
It may be possible to aspirate sperm from the above-the-block segment of the tube severed by vasectomy (PESA).
Another option is to aspirate sperm directly from the testicles (TESA).
The retrieved sperm are then used during
in vitro fertilization with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
The aspiration is a brief outpatient procedure requiring only a mild sedation. One of the advantages of this
approach, over having a vasectomy reversal, is that the vasectomy remains for contraception after a pregnancy
has been achieved.
