TESTICULAR BIOPSY CRYOPRESERVATION

When sperm is aspirated by PESA, MESA or TESA, it is usually possible to preserve any "left over" sperm by freezing and storing the sample in liquid nitrogen. This process is equivalent to regular sperm cryopreservation.

For some men, the sperm aspiration may not be able to provide a sufficient sperm sample to create a pregnancy. These patients may require a very small piece of their testicles to be surgically removed (testicular biopsy).

Nova embryologists can cryopreserve and store the biopsy for potential future use. The cryopreservation of the testicular tissue is different and much more challenging than routine sperm freezing.
