The following list shows the most common tests performed at Nova.
- Comprehensive Female and Male Infertility Evaluation
We organize our fertility testing around the three types of infertility factors:
- Male Factor Infertility
- Ovulation and Egg Quality Disorders
- Fallopian tubes or Passage Problems
This approach provides for a very orderly, expeditious arrival at the cause(s) of the couple's infertility. This infertility workup plan also allows for close and meaningful communication of the findings to the couple.
- Ovarian Reserve Testing (Egg Quality Testing)
This includes a careful and thorough evaluation of ovaries using transvaginal ultrasound and a functional blood test: Ovarian Function Assay.
- Reproductive Hormone Assays
Several female hormone levels are measured in our laboratory both as a part of the initial investigation and during the treatments.
- Sonohysterography Evaluation of the Uterus
It is essential to rule out the presence of polyps, scarring and myomas (fibroids) in the endometrial cavity before any treatment is initiated. The presence of any of these structures inside the uterus could significantly compromise the likelihood of embryo implantation.
- Semen Analysis
Semen analysis can be very useful uncovering the most severe forms of male factor infertility. It is a part of the prerequisites for advanced reproductive treatments.
- Sperm Viability Testing
This test is used when there is no motility of the sperm seen on semen analysis. It allows us to distinguish between the non-viable sperm, in which case donor semen will have to be used, and viable sperm that is merely non-motile, in which case Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injections (ICSI) with husband's sperm can be done.
- HIV I & II, HTLV I & II, Hepatitis B (HBsAg), Hepatitis C, Syphilis Screen (RPR)
These tests are required by the State of California as a prerequisite for advanced reproductive treatments.
- Chlamydia, Gonorrhea Testing
The FDA mandates these tests as a part of the sperm and/or egg donation treatment.
