The most common conditions that can give rise to suboptimal tubal function are: pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, uterine myomas (fibroids), ovarian cysts and masses and Salpingitis Isthmica Nodosa (S.I.N.).
S.I.N. is a relatively rare condition causing a permanent swelling of the tissue inside the tubes keeping a woman from conceiving.

Many of these tubal infertility problems can be corrected surgically. Unfortunately, it may be a long time (up to two to five years) before you may see the benefits of the surgery by having a successful pregnancy.
In many cases, it may be more efficacious and, in the long run less expensive, to bypass the Fallopian tubes altogether with in vitro fertilization.
If the Fallopian tubes are the main cause of infertility the IVF pregnancy rates are typically quite high.
